RunningWise – For the Love of Running

Welcome to RunningWise! Craig Spence and Michael Taylor, two Scotsmen now living in Sydney, are creating a multimedia online running club for runners over the age of 40. It’s more than just a blog about running though. We have a podcast, Facebook group and YouTube channel in the pipeline. We’re building a community here!

We believe in keeping it real.  We don’t sugarcoat our experiences or pretend that it’s is always easy, especially when you are over 40. Instead, we share the ups and downs, triumphs and challenges and everything in between.  Running is a journey, and we want to take you along for the ride.

Is it Just About Running?

Join us as we take you on an adventure through our laid-back chats, ParkRun anecdotes, and tales from the road.  Going beyond the typical content you’d expect, we’ll explore events in Australia and worldwide. Regularly setting up camp in picturesque spots as we chase our goals.  We’ll also take every opportunity on our travels to savour other local offerings, post-run coffees, craft beers and live music gigs.

What can you expect from us? Authenticity. We won’t hold back when it comes to sharing our experiences, whether they’re funny, embarrassing, or just downright challenging. We want to create a space where runners of all capabilities over the age of 40 can come together, share their stories, and feel a sense of belonging.

Is it Just a Boys Club?

Absolutely not! Mike and I are both men in our 50s (which we can’t do much about) but we truly hope RunningWise becomes a supportive, inclusive community. The only conscious-bias we have is that we have focused on all runners over the age of 40. Why did we do this? Because we believe it’s a bit of a neglected niche and although we may never set lifetime personal bests to rival younger runners, our own targets are just as important. So, our community is for everyone…just as long as you aren’t 39 or younger.

How to Connect

ParkRunParkRun is our go to and we are out most if not all Saturday mornings. Craig’s local is the Greenway Parkrun in Leichhardt, NSW and Mike can be found at the Rhodes ParkRun, Rhodes, NSW. In recent weeks we have run at Moana and Shiraz Trail ParkRuns in South Australia and Curl Curl and most recently St Peters 12th Anniversary event (as shown in the photos above). Look out for us rocking the new on-brand luminous lime running shirts and come say hello!

Blog – Our basecamp at RunningWise is our blog.  Here we’ll share our day-to-day running reality. The blog should be a place of inspiration, motivation and a sense of community. We understand the struggles that come with running, especially when you get that little bit older. Also, we know the joy and fulfilment that running can bring at any age. It’s not just about the physical benefits either. It’s about the mental and emotional well-being that comes from pushing yourself and achieving your goals.

Facebook Group – Our Facebook group provides a members only space to share your updates with the RunningWise community.  We want to create a vibrant, supportive, and engaging online group where all members feel free to contribute. Craig and Mike will share quick video updates and other content related to the community.

YouTube Channel – Our YouTube channel is currently in development and will launch in mid-2024. The channel will be a platform for us to share videos of our various adventures.  YouTube offers the opportunity to share longer video content taking members deeper into the world of RunningWise.

Podcast – The podcast will launch in late-2024 and will be the home for regular, in-depth conversations with the characters we meet along the way. We’ll look to include coaches, athletes, nutritionists and medical professionals and above all runners with stories to share will be at the heart of our podcast.

What Next?

Stay tuned here for upcoming blog posts, where we’ll share regular updates, lots more stories, insights and laughs.  Get ready to be inspired, entertained, and motivated.  It would be great to see you out on a ParkRun soon and we can’t wait to find out what all of our community have to share…RunningWise!

Cheers,

Craig & Mike
